The short version
Onymera has two halves, and they behave completely differently.
The app as most people use it collects nothing at all. No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no network requests of any kind. The words, the rotation and your saved list live on your device and never leave it.
Personalization is the one paid feature, and it is the only part that sends anything anywhere. If you buy it and sign in, two things reach our server: an account identifier, and the sentences you type into the chat. Nothing else.
If you never buy personalization, nothing in the section below applies to you.
What the free app collects
Nothing.
There is no account, no identifier, and no server to send anything to. Your settings, your history and your saved words are stored on your device in storage shared between the app and its widget, and are never transmitted. If you delete the app, they are gone.
The "Report a problem" feature opens your own mail app with a message already written, showing you exactly what it contains before you send it. Nothing is transmitted unless you choose to send that email yourself.
What personalization collects
Only if you buy the unlock and sign in:
An account identifier
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. Onymera asks Apple for no name and no email address — the app is built to request neither, so we never receive them and have nothing to store. What we receive is an opaque identifier Apple generates for Onymera specifically. It cannot be used to identify you elsewhere.
The sentences you type
When you describe the words you want — "words I'd use at an airport" — that sentence is stored so the app can show you what you last asked for and keep your choice consistent across your devices. We also store the resulting list of word numbers, which language you were studying, and when you last changed it.
A count of how many times you have used the chat
Kept per day and per year, so the feature's limits can be enforced.
That is the complete list. There is no record of which words you have seen, when you looked at your phone, where you are, what else is on your device, or anything about how you use the free part of the app.
Who else processes it
- Supabase hosts the database and handles Sign in with Apple on our behalf.
- Anthropic receives the sentence you type, together with the vocabulary list your device already has, in order to work out which words fit your request. It is sent to Anthropic's commercial API and handled under Anthropic's terms. Your account identifier is not sent to Anthropic — only the sentence and the word list.
We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than making the feature work. There is no analytics provider, no advertising SDK and no tracking of any kind, in either half of the app.
This website
The app and this website are separate things, and this section is about the website only.
onymera.app sets no cookies and has no login. Cloudflare hosts it and runs two things in your browser: a small script that hides email addresses on the page from scrapers, and Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views. Cloudflare Web Analytics is built not to use cookies and not to fingerprint you or follow you across other sites; what it records is the page, where you arrived from, and coarse details like country and browser type.
None of this is connected to the app or to any account. The app itself still makes no network requests, and nothing on this website can be linked back to it.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
Your personalization is kept until you change it or delete it.
In the app: Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and everything attached to it — the identifier, every sentence you have typed, your saved selection and your usage counts. It is immediate and it cannot be undone. You do not have to email anyone or wait for us to action it.
You can also clear just your word selection, without deleting your account, using "Show all words again" in the personalization chat.
If you delete the app without deleting your account, the account remains until you delete it — reinstall and sign in to remove it, or write to us and we will do it.
Children
Onymera is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
